Like mother, like daughter…

Daughter of supermodel Cindy Crawford and a fully-fledged runway star in her own right, Kaia Gerber is the epitome of today’s supermodel. Last month the breath-taking beauty turned 18 and celebrated with what she described as the “best birthday present” by gracing the cover of British Vogue. Described as an ‘old soul’, Kaia is entering young adulthood with the fashion world at her feet and talked modelling, body confidence, social media and embracing her nerdiness in the October issue of the British fashion bible.

Despite her tender age, Kaia has already hit every major model milestone; Chanel, Valentino, Miu Miu, Prada, Alexander Wang… you name it, she’s walked it. Her classically beautiful looks and resemblance to her mother have won her numerous high-end fashion campaigns and magazine covers as well as endless attention in the International fashion world. Born 3rd September 2001, Kaia is the daughter of fashion icon Cindy Crawford and businessman, Randy Gerber who founded nightlife companies ‘Midnight Oil’ and ‘The Gerber Group’ and turned the tequila brand he co-founded with George Clooney into a billion-dollar business.

Whilst modelling was no doubt inevitable, Kaia started out at a young age with her very first modelling assignment at just 10 years old for designer, Versace with their line for kids, Young Versace. She signed with IMG models in July 2015 and hit the ground running commencing, of course, with Teen Vogue. Kaia appeared on the cover of ‘Vogue Paris’ with her mother in 2016 as well as starring in Alexander Wang’s Spring 2016 ads, fronting Miu Miu’s summer 2016 eyewear campaign as well as being announced as the face of Marc Jacobs beauty line for Spring 2017 and in the advert for their best-selling fragrance, Daisy. In 2017 Kaia made her runway debut when she walked for Raf Simons’ Calvin Klein Collection. Two days later she opened the show at Alexander Wang proving that she has inherited her mum’s supermodel genes in more ways than one.

Not content to star on the catwalks alone, Kaia has also taken ad campaign after ad campaign and been featured in the likes of Interview, Vogue, Pop Magazine and Self Service. Her first solo cover was for Vogue Paris in February 2018 and the same year she collaborated with the late Karl Lagerfield to create the KarlxKaia collection as well as being awarded Model of the Year at The Fashion Awards. In 2019 alone this superstar has posed for Stella McCartney, Saint Laurent, Fendi, Jimmy Choo and Marc Jacobs.

It may have only been two years since Kaia took her first steps on the catwalk under the avid glaze of the fashion world, but the rest is history. The newly-turned eighteen-year-old has become a catwalk regular and made an appearance in more shows than not over the last month of SS20 presentations, starting with the big names in The Big Apple including Marc Jacobs, Alexander Wang, Michael Kors, Tom Ford, Coach, Proenza Schouler, Longchamp and more before heading to Milan to walk in Versace, Fendi, Moschino, Prada and Alberta Ferretti. As SOCIETY MARBELLA went to print, Milan had just wrapped up and Paris Fashion Week SS20 was moments away, no doubt with Kaia at the helm, a position we are sure she will hold in the fashion world for many years to come.
