Hi my name is Clare Navas and I’m the founder of TLE.  We produce a luxurious range of organic hemp based products here in Andalucía. I’m a mum of two beautiful boys and a hemp enthusiast. Once I started learning about the benefits of this amazing plant it literally became my passion and part of my soul. Each month I will be writing a column where I will be talking about different hemp related topics, cannabinoids and the possible health benefits related to this amazing plant.

So why do I believe this is the product of the future? In my opinion it can simply change the world and the way we know it, this is the miracle plant! We can eat it, we can wear it, we can construct with it and by planting it we can reduce CO2 pollution! This month I’m enthralled to be explaining about the new “CBD” (the new big thing everyone is talking about), the amazing benefits introducing Hemp into your life will bring, and how it can affect the future.

The “green rush” is now hitting Europe and I’m here to try and introduce you to the new world of Hemp based products by sharing my knowledge that I have gained through my experiences in launching my own TLE organic hemp range here in Spain.

So what is Hemp?

Hemp is an incredibly versatile plant that has played an important role in history. It can be used to produce rope, clothing, paper, and more. Hemp has been the catalyst for man’s earliest innovations. There is even archaeological evidence that we were using hemp as long as 8,000 years BC.

Hemp and Cannabis are both species of the same plant but they have several differences the main ones being the THC content in Hemp will be 0.2%, and the plant looks long and slim with thin leaves. ON the other hand, Medical grown cannabis will have a high THC and the plant will be shorter and bushier. I always tell people to think of the Cat family … the domestic cat and the lion are two of the same species but very different.

The History of Hemp

Hemp was probably the earliest plant cultivated. Archaeologists have found the remains of hemp cloth in ancient Mesopotamia which dates back to around 8,000 BC. It is widely thought that hemp cultivation represents the oldest example of mankind’s industrial efforts. This plant was used to make the 600-year-old Gutenberg Bible, as well as the sails of the English fleet of ships that defeated the Spanish Armada. In fact, at one point, it was illegal for farmers in England not to grow hemp.

In America, too, hemp has been held in high esteem by those in power. Founding Father and former President Thomas Jefferson is quoted as saying, “hemp is of first necessity to the wealth & protection of the country.”

Later, George Washington encouraged the cultivation of hemp when he said, “make the most you can of the Indian Hemp seed and sow it everywhere.”

The many uses of hemp

  • Fibre

It can be used to make fabrics and textiles, rope and paper. The word ‘canvas’ actually derives from the word cannabis.

  • Food

The seeds of hemp are extremely nutritious and can be pressed into oil or made into milk. The leaves can be used in salads or to make teas.

  • Building material

‘hemp Crete’, biodegradable plastics, and wood replacements.

These materials have been used in the manufacture of many things, including electronics, cars and houses.

  • Biofuel

Biodiesel — sometimes known as ‘hempoline’.

  • CBD

In the last few years, the CBD industry has exploded. Across the globe, the all-natural benefits of CBD has resulted in a huge demand for CBD products, with hemp being the primary source of CBD.

What is CBD ….

CBD stands for Cannabidiol, it is one of the 118 natural ingredients or chemical compounds known as cannabinoids found in the hemp/ cannabis plant and is becoming a popular natural remedy for many common ailments due to its anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant properties.

Will CBD oil make you high? The short answer is no, Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is the main psychoactive cannabinoid found in cannabis and causes the sensation of getting “high” that’s often associated with marijuana. However, unlike THC, CBD is not psychoactive, it is a calming compound that has anti-anxiety and anti-psychotic effects. This quality makes CBD an appealing option for those who are looking for relief from pain and other symptoms without the mind-altering effects of marijuana or certain pharmaceutical drugs.

CBD is gaining momentum in the health and wellness world, with some scientific studies confirming it may help treat a variety of ailments such as chronic pain and anxiety. Last year a report by the World Health Organisation (WHO) revealed that CBD may help treat symptoms relating to Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, MS, pain, anxiety and depression.

The human body contains a specialised system called the endocannabinoid system (ECS), which is involved in regulating a variety of functions in the body. The reason that CBD is such an effective form of support for human health is due to the body’s endogenous cannabinoid system. The regulatory structure of the body has millions of cannabinoid receptors in the brain and nervous system, which react not only to plant-derived cannabinoids (such as hemp and marijuana) but also to natural cannabinoids produced within our body. These receptors are called CB1 and CB2 and are present throughout our body. When the phtocannabinoids of the plant interact with these neurons it binds to the receptors and effectively infiltrates the endocannabinoid system, helping our body regulate itself in many different ways, including sleep, mood, appetite, and pain.

This is why by introducing CBD into your daily regime can help restore balance within your eco system. In my opinion and the feedback that I have had with my customers is that it simply makes you feel restored and this is due to the fact that it works by improving your homeostasis. The way that the cannabinoids react with our system can trigger an array of beneficial side effects relieving anxiety, stress, chronic pain, and a number of other related issues.

In saying this I am a great believer in the power of self healing and you are what you eat. Everybody can have a positive impact on their own lives by the choices that they make. You can choose to help yourself by promoting a healthier lifestyle through eating and exercise or you can choose not to. CBD can enhance your wellbeing and help you bring your homeostasis into balance giving your body the optimum chance of recovery and help you on the journey to a better quality of life in alliance with other health enhancing activities.

We consume all types of hemp products in my house because they are so good for you. Hemp seeds contain all the essential fatty acids that we require to make a brain and body function correctly. Hemp contains not only Omega 3 which is usually found in oily fish but also Omega 6 which isn’t found in any other foods. These help with brain development and function. Hemp seeds also contain phytosterols which help reduce cholesterol and 10 amino acids which are great to help the absorption of other minerals.

Our lovingly created hemp CBD & CBG tinctures have had more positive feedback. I get so excited when I hear that our products, that we have worked so hard to create, are truly helping people.

This week’s testimonial is from MRS KANE a 90-year-old woman from Liverpool. I originally gave her the 10% elite tincture to help combat the feeling of anxiety that she was having but was amazed at the other benefits that she received. After 6 days of taking the tincture her swelling in her legs had greatly reduced, she felt happy and she was also able to walk un aided!

“I’m Mary Kane and I take Clare’s oil and I’m ninety and I feel marvellous”,

states Mary Kane from Liverpool.

Please check out @theleaftlc for the video. She’s an incredible woman and a pleasure to help. It’s an amazing feeling that you get when you see what an organic full spectrum tincture can really can do for people.

In todays society we are continuously put under pressure to look good to have a continuous stream of beautiful photos of your life on social media whilst juggling the normal house work bills and everything else! These additional problems and peer pressures have impacted the way that our body functions. One common symptom is that people are suffering from is severe headaches and migraines.

By introducing the cannabinoids into the bloodstream it reacts to the CB1 receptors which control the central nervous system reducing the pressure in the frontal lobes. There have been clinical studies which has proven that cannabis taken in different forms reduces severe migraines and headaches but further testing needs to be carried out. (

All I can say is that when my customers have taken the TLE elite organic tincture they have found that it eases headaches. This is why it is vital to gather more information and anyone taking any cannabinoid based product should try to monitor themselves closely to find out what it helps them with. All research is vital in supporting the legalisation of the plant.

Backstage at TLE…

Forming the right partnerships …

To help with research and development in the industry we teamed up with Sticky Fingers in Marbella to help to start to build a foundation of research to help the cannabis industry. This is a private members club where you can consume cannabis on the premises and a safe place to gather information regarding products and cannabis.

We went to visit our partners at the laboratory to find out how the new creams and capsules were coming on, everything is in production but not ready yet. I will keep you posted on the new fantastic products that are being made, so watch this space!

We are also in talks with a prestigious London store who would like to stock TLE Elite Organic Tinctures and other Spanish hemp products …. So exciting!!!

After a set back with our packaging (namely a flood) ruining my beautiful boxes that we had custom made it was back to the drawing board. Luckily enough my friends in creative design helped me make my artisan boxes which are now finally ready for sale… just in time for the prefect Christmas Gift.

Who knew that being an entrepreneur in Spain could be this much hard work but still be fun! … Yippee!

As my amazing tincture was ready for sale I took Sasha my beautiful TLE CBD model to Parque Naguelles, Marbella for a photo shoot. The dog walkers were extremely pleased and surprised to find us taking videos and photos for the website and Instagram. Check out the stunning images on Instagram @theleaftlc and help the hemp community grow!

I was contacted by the parents at Aloha college led by Virginia McCarthy who had organised a collection for the children’s orphanage in Malaga. Parents and other willing participants donated clothes and toys for the children. They then went a step further and collected money to purchase a fridge for the over 16’s which was in desperate need. Well done!!

We are still collecting for the “ninos con cancer” as we still haven’t reached our target of 2,000 euros to donate for equipment.

Children are the future lets show them we care!

If there is any information you wish to find out regarding hemp CBD or any other related issues, please get in contact we are always happy to help!
