Timeless Elegance

On a rare but welcome rainy evening in Marbella, our reviewers headed to the renowned restaurant Cipriani at the Hotel Puente Romano.

Nestled as it is, in the lap of luxury and boasting Coya and Nobu as its neighbours, this haven for lovers of fine food sat atop our current culinary bucket list.

Arriving promptly for an early dinner, the first impressions were nothing short of captivating. The entrance exuded an air of exclusivity, setting the tone for an evening that promised a journey through the heights of sophistication. The ambiance, a seamless blend of modern elegance and classic charm, enveloped patrons in an aura of luxury from moment one.

Once settled at our chosen table, adorned with crisp linens and gleaming silverware, my dining companion and I embarked on our gastronomic exploration. The journey began with a delightful dish of finely chopped baby artichokes blended with avocado and topped with Parmesan, a starter that skilfully teased the palate with its delicate balance of textures and flavours. This dish was a testament to the chef’s mastery in marrying seemingly disparate ingredients to create a harmonious prelude to the culinary symphony that awaited.

The prawn curry with spiced rice that followed was nothing short of sensational. The prawns, succulent and perfectly cooked, danced in a rich, aromatic curry paired with a flawlessly fried pilaf, each bite unfolded a tapestry of flavours, leaving an indelible impression on our taste buds.

For the main courses, we opted for the seafood pasta and lamb chops, each a masterpiece in their own right. The spaghetti with seafood was perfectly cooked and presented at the table, this medley of fresh seafood and plump lobster, was served bathed in a luscious creamy sauce which clung to the pasta like a lovers embrace. Five lamb chops then duly arrived and, sensing the unspoken tension to this newly presented mathematical conundrum, our skilled waited Javier served us two each cut the last one into two pieces before silently departed the scene.

Staying on topic of seamless service and akin to a magic trick, our dinner tablecloth was replaced “pre dessert” without the need for removing what was already on the old cloth! that was a new one for me, but nonetheless very impressive.

The crowning glory of our almost completed culinary journey was the house signature vanilla merengue cake.

A visual spectacle and a triumph for the taste buds, the cake stood tall, adorned with delicate swirls of merengue. Each forkful delivering a veritable symphony of textures, from the velvety cake to the ethereal lightness of the sticky topping, leaving us with a sweet crescendo to conclude this unforgettable voyage.

Suitably full and extremely impressed we retired to the lounge to indulge in an after dinner digestif affording us the comfort to appreciate the melody’s of the live jazz ensemble which greeted the newly attending diners.

In conclusion, Cipriani Puente Romano proved to be more than a restaurant; it was a portal to a world where culinary artistry met unparalleled service in an ambiance of sheer luxury.
